(not quite a) Year in Japan

Tokyo (東京), via Chiba (千葉)

So yeah, there was an event I wanted to go to in Tokyo (東京) (to be accurate, not Tokyo,  Chiba (千葉)), and I figured “It can’t be that expensive to travel virtually the entire width of Japan by train…”, so I checked the Shinkansen prices and moved swiftly on from that idea.

Though, if you’re lucky, domestic flights in Japan can be extremely reasonable. So for this little escapade, I booked 2 single flights: Kagoshima -> Tokyo, and then Tokyo -> Oita (back in Kyushu) – that way I’d still be moving on with the Kyushu travelling without having to get the super-expensive Shinkansen to get out of Kagoshima. Total cost of the tickets (incl. baggage), ~£110 (compared to the Shinkansen which would’ve been at least that one-way).

So I got to Tokyo suuuper late on Thursday, the event was over the last 2 days (Saturday/Sunday), and my flight back to Kyushu is on Tuesday afternoon. So I’ve pretty much got today and tomorrow left to do anything…though I’m still knackered from said event, I think today will be a chill day as the next 3-4 days or so are going to be absolutely crammed with stuff.

Plus it’s Golden Week (several national holidays occurring on the same week) so everywhere is going to jam-packed – note to everyone at home, avoid coming to Japan during Golden Week unless you want to experience massive crowds (which is kind of fun in it’s own way).

Anyway, this post is more of a long-ass status update, upcoming actual posts:

  • Nico Nico Chokaigi (ニコニコ超会議) 2018
  • Akihabara’s creepy vending machines
  • Another misc food post (featuring more napolitan!!!)
  • Maybe a post about how to travel in Japan carrying a big-ass suitcase

(The only reason I’m not doing those posts now, is that I took several billion photos at Nico Nico Chokaigi, so I really need to go through those before posting…so that post may not happen for a week or so)
