(not quite a) Year in Japan

Arashiyama (嵐山) pt1 – Bamboo Forest (竹林)

So I think one of the reasons I took so long getting around to posting more was my daytrip to Arashiyama (嵐山) – I took so many photos that the thought of sifting through them all was just bleh.

Here’s part 1 of 2…maybe 3, ended up taking fewer photos as the day went on so we’ll see how it goes.

Anyhow, Arashiyama Bamboo Forest is another one of those places in Kyoto that falls under the category “that famous place you’ve probably seen before”. As such got up a little early and headed over there to avoid the crowds.

Coming from the west the bamboo starts off pretty sparse, spread out amongst the rest of the forest.

There’s a railway line that runs through the forest…don’t know why, but thought it was pretty neat
You know, if you looked up ‘picturesque’ in the dictionary…you wouldn’t find this picture…because it’s a dictionary, not a picture book.

But as you head further to the south, the bamboo groves get thicker, and it becomes absolutely stunning.

my favourite photo i’ve taken in Japan 🙂

After the bamboo forest, headed down to the river and went part of the way up Karasugadake mountain. For which there’s a few photos next time!
